These views differ based on how the relation between the Old Covenant (Law) and the New Covenant (Gospel) is viewed.1 James Borland's view in the accompanying feature article is that the entire Mosaic Law was abrogated when Christ fulfilled it (Col. 2:14). Christians, therefore, are not obligated to keep the requirements of the Mosaic Law, whether moral or ceremonial, including the requirement to keep the Sabbath (Rom. 14:5--6). This does not mean, however, that God's moral standards have no application to Christians (which would be antinomianism — the denial of Christian obligation to keep any law), only that they no longer apply through the Mosaic Law. God's moral standards now apply to Christians through the law of Christ (basically the law of love — Rom. 13:8--10) or through natural law, also known as general revelation (Rom. 1:18--32; 2:12--16) FOR THE REST OF THE ARTICLE TAP BELOW http://www.equip.org/atf/cf/%7B9C4EE03A-F988-4091-84BD-F8E70A3B0215%7D/DS421.pdf Archer's father was Gleason Archer, Sr., the founder of Suffolk University. Archer g Dr. Gleason Archer Preaches on this Topic. Archer's father was Gleason Archer, Sr., the founder of Suffolk University. Archer graduated in 1938 with a B.A. from Harvard University (summa cum laude in Classics) and received an LL.B. from Suffolk Law School in 1939, the same year he was admitted to the Massachusetts bar. In 1940 he received a masters degree and in 1944 he was awarded a Ph.D. at Harvard University in Classics. Finally he received his Bachelor of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1945. Archer served as a Pastor of Park Street Church in Boston from 1945 to 1948. He then became a Professor of Biblical Languages at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California from 1948 to 1965. From 1965 to 1986 he served as a Professor of Old Testament and Semitics at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois. He became an emeritus faculty member in 1989. The remainder of his life was spent researching, writing, and lecturing. Archer served as one of the 50 original translators of the NASB published in 1971. He also worked on the team which translated the NIV Bible published in 1978. His defense of the doctrine of Biblical inerrancy by proposing harmonizations and exegesis regarding inconsistencies in the Bible made Archer a well known biblical inerrantist. He stated: "One cannot allow for error in history-science without also ending up with error in doctrine." He was critical of the documentary hypothesis which denies the Mosaic authorship of the Pentateuch.

Jun 25, 2008 - The new covenant also sais love the LORD YOUR GOD! YOUR GOD said if you LOVE ME keep my COMMANDMENTS. If you follow your view we would just be going around in circles.

jkw733 Says:

Jul 4, 2008 - JESUS CHRIST said that, in John 14:15. Isn't He YOUR God too? The New Covenant says "Love thy God"??? What does Deut. 6:5 say, and WHO said THAT?

1cross3nails4gvn Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - No you are sealing yourself to salvation. The Ten Commandments were not given to Moses they were given to Israel. And we are now spiritual Israel. Therefore we should always indeed try to follow the commandments

1cross3nails4gvn Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - yes he is my God. But the new covenamt can and will never contradict (directly) itself than Gods word would not be eternal.(and that is in clear contradiction of scripture) Sabbath Truth!

jkw733 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Jesus lived on earth as GOD manifested in human flesh, to mingle with humanity as one of us. He showed the Jews of His day the proper ways of honoring His Father in all things, including PROPERLY keeping the Sabbath, when the day it fell on was not an issue! Then He died on the cross, setting the New Covenant into action by SEALING IT with His blood, thus nullifying the sacrificial and ceremonial services. In death He RESTED in His tomb over the Sabbath; all of His cohorts also observed it.

jkw733 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - We need not TRY to follow the commandments; the Holy Spirit of God and Jesus can reside inside us as He has promised. Under this instance, obedience is a given, --- AUTOMATIC, since GOD IN US effects one's obedience, as He molds us into His spiritual image, having already created us in His physical image. Since the New Covenant became effective ON FRIDAY, upon Jesus' death on the cross, its existence TOTALLY NEGATES any more importance of Sundays than their continuation as mere workdays.

1cross3nails4gvn Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - All people need laws countries states cities every person this also applies to your spiritual life without it there would be and there is no diffrence between evangelicals and normal people.

1cross3nails4gvn Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - The question now is do you?

1cross3nails4gvn Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - The question is not weather which day is sabbath or sunday we know that saturday is sunday the question is do you observe it?

1cross3nails4gvn Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - this is what most evangelics say in my post at the top totally not true saturday is the sabbath!

jkw733 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Excuse me; Saturday is not Sunday, as any calendar will verify. But it IS God's everlasting day of rest, "the Lord's day", having been formerly referred to as "the seventh day" (of the week) in the Bible.

jkw733 Says:

Jul 8, 2008 - Certainly! Apparently you haven't checked my channel yet?

Mekelsior Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - I assume then, that we are no longer in need of worshipping God either then, since the Law was abolished? (Mat 5:17) Strange, that Jesus said it wasnt. I wonder whoom I should believe, God or man, can anyone help me in this? Is it so difficult to do the Will of God, that we on every single occation look for a reason to break the Law of Freedom? How are we free of the Law? By Keeping it! If you break the Law you are enslaved by it.

SKYSPLASH Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - No Christ is the End of the law he is the only one who could fulfill it. When you become Born again and saved BY Gods Grace through Faith in Christ God writes new Laws on your Heart. And now he lives in you the mystery of Christ in you. You are Justified once and for all saved and then you are continually sanctified in your walk naturally worshiping in Spirit and Truth EVERY DAY. The spirit draws you to your NEW NATURE to love God and Love your Neighbor follow this and all is Fulfilled.

Mekelsior Says:

Sep 10, 2008 - Sir: Where does it say that it is a new law? Mat 15:3-9, a very good example of what the Law is. Jesus here talks about honoring the parents, and that this is something God wants. Is this then something that has changed? Does God no longer want us to honor our parents? 1 John 2:5-7, Jesus Christ is our example, our perfect example, our flawless example, the way He lived, is the way we SHOULD live. He that abideth in Him, ought himself also so walk, even as He walked. 1 Joh 5:3, this is love. Do!

SKYSPLASH Says:

Sep 10, 2008 - Romans 7:6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code. Your failure is that Jesus was leading people into the NEW COVNENANT showing in the Gospels that NO MAN COULD FULLFILL the LAW . Thus the need for Blood sacrafice and even with this it was not enough. When you are Born Again You have CHRIST IN YOU. The Mystery of Christ in you.

SKYSPLASH Says:

Sep 10, 2008 - Ephesians 2 14For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, 16and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.

SKYSPLASH Says:

Sep 10, 2008 - 17He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

gettalifenow Says:

Sep 19, 2008 - Skysplash, it is unfortunate that you were taught by incompetent sabbatarian clergy. I know that SATAN influences and infiltrates SDA, SDB, SDP seminaries as well as all of the rest. Sabbatrian preachers are challenged with their Rom 8:7 carnal nature too just like you..but JESUS is judge and Lord and the only day in the bible where GOD calls a day his own is in IS 58:13 so surrendar to Jesus or die.

gettalifenow Says:

Sep 19, 2008 - Please review 8:15 to the end of this part. Here is the STRONGEST argument for the sabbath commandment. The Holy Spirit inspiring Matthew Mark Luke and John on these selections/verses in MATT 12, MARK 2 & 3 , LUKE 6,13, 14 and JOHN 5,7 and 9 WITHOUT any editing comments by the authors as to a change in worship practice or commandment abrogation is THE MAIN hit against SUNday compromise. The gospels were written 3 to 8 decades into the NEW covenant era and the change would be mentioned!!!!!!!!

gettalifenow Says:

Sep 19, 2008 - 99% of preachers ar MATT 5:19 preachers.

gettalifenow Says:

Sep 20, 2008 - 4th commandment/sabbath trashing is about the most obvious religious con job/deception on EARTH. Just compare how 99% of the church use ACTS 20:7 and never teach about ACTS 13:42-4, 16:13, 17:2 and 18:4. The usual text used is Col 2:16,17 and by many who don't have a clue what they are talking about. If PAUL trashed the sabbath, why didn't he warn all of those gentiles in ACTS to stop hanging around the Jews and come worship with him on the SUNday/Lord's day???????? SATAN has the church sinning

tinesheart Says:

Oct 18, 2008 - just go and look for the meaning of saturday even in our dictionary this days..its the 7th day of the week..the saturday...then look at the 10 commandments....open ur eyes and heart....pray and ask Gods holy spirit to be with you as you seek the real truth...isnt that good...in sabbath which is saturday u and ur family can spend time honoring God...and in sunday u can spend time with your family going out?isnt that a fulfilled weekend?...everybody needs a day of rest..

hero2d0s Says:

Oct 27, 2008 - Regarding Sabbath (Day of Rest) regarding whos calendar is it to be observed Greco Roman or Judaism?

tinesheart Says:

Oct 27, 2008 - hi hero.christian greeting to you. saturday remains the 7th day of the week even in gregorian calendar or judaism...nothing has changed still its saturday the sabbath day. MARK 2:27 "THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, NOT MAN FOR THE SABBATH". SO it is clear that man has NO RIGHT to change the SABBATH DAY into sunday coz sunday before was being worshipped by the pagans...the SUN..which is sunday nowadays..jst close your eyes and pray..the holy spirit will help you as you go on searching 4 REAL TRUTH
