Aug 26, 2008 - Planomoran says: "Spiritual exercises are a personal thing. One has to adapt them to the individual. ...Consciousness changes and the techniques need to be streamlined for the modern state of mind. Don't be afraid to adapt new approaches". If that's true, there is no objective thing called "The Five Tibetan Rites". They're whatever anybody wants them to be at any point in time. Just sitting on my sofa could become The Five Tibetan Rites. Who can say their interpretation's more valid than mine?

WesternAramco Says:

Aug 26, 2008 - reply above...

Planomoran Says:

Aug 26, 2008 - I agree. ONe shouldn't call them a specific traditional thing, if they don't fall into the parameters of that exercise. But, still the whole idea is to get them to work. If a little tweaking makes them come alive, then don't be afraid to innovate. Teach the correct way, then create. I've seen Christian, Buddists, and Jewish monks repeat the SAME traditional century old chants over and over. The flow was gone. It was like leaden bells. The mind numbs it out. I create new approaches evry 2 wks.

Aug 29, 2008 - I need to start back doing these

RiouInsuiko Says:

Sep 5, 2008 - Nobody. I do feel spiritual excercises are rubbish though. I don't really see a point.

3ras3d Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - RiouInsuiko: Remember, its all in the head. point of view. glass half empty or half full, and that kind of rubbish. :p its all just a ride, just a show. give the audience a grin, but remember that the last smile is on you :p these "rites" look like a good stretch-out routine for morning AND evening. too bad that i just spent 45 minutes in watching videos and reading comments instead of actually doing these 5 ones. damn. but ok, tomorrow is another day

RiouInsuiko Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - I'd rather keep on liftin, these are girly. Nobody needs any of this mental mumbo-jumbo, anyone who has 15 minutes to be doing this should really consider some alternatives... ;o

3ras3d Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - ye, keep with the lifting, as its obvious you cant benefit from the "mental mumbo-jumbo" ok, sorry, j/k, but it was stronger then me :D you should really not judge things without trying them, when they cant do you any harm. and as there are hundreds of people saying that these rites had helped them. why not try them as a stretch-out before doing lifting? as it takes less then 15 minutes to do them.

3ras3d Says:

Sep 10, 2008 - but what now i must say after watching rites practiced here, they are not the one that book says. these are much easier, as i tried. point in the book is to make them as many as possible, but not overdo it. if you find them all too hard, book says to try do 3 repetitions first week, 5 second, 7 third... until you reach 21. you can try some in a easy way, for example as this video shows, until you can do them the right way. but sorry, these are not those famous five tibetian rites.

PatrickJB Says:

Sep 21, 2008 - Isn't the third rite being done incorrectly? I'm going to be incorporating the Five Tibetans into my practice but I'm looking for some clarity. I've ordered the book The Five Tibetans: Yoga Methods of Power by Christopher S. Kilham and was going to buy a DVD but decided for such a simple series of exercises that it's probably not needed. Of course the simplicity does not diminish the regenerative effects of The Five Tibetans as with QiGong and Tia Chi simplicity is the key.

Baromegato Says:

Oct 3, 2008 - Why is it that all I can think is "mmmmm...pussy."?

elysiantales Says:

Oct 15, 2008 - i read some of the book many years ago and your right about the repetitions if i can remember. it said start off 3 then 5 and so forth because this awakens the detox process in your body and doing 21 is too many for a beginner. you can possibly get sick or fatigued by doing that many.

Inetro Says:

Oct 26, 2008 - this is so not the way you're supposed to do it.

zeko543 Says:

Oct 28, 2008 - good jobs thanks

AutopsyReport22 Says:

Nov 8, 2008 - you want std pussy you mean? they got a new one out now too called 'chlamydia pussy'. just think of that next time you want some that oughta clear out your mind.

tealoon Says:

Nov 11, 2008 - i think you should inhale/exhale the other way on second rite (at least that's what it says in the book)

nUnit4Life Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - Overly stylized, breath work is wrong, tempo and pace of performance is off as well. Probably not bad for an intro/demo for a TV show; lousey as an instructional piece.

Baromegato Says:

Nov 24, 2008 - ...you scared of pussy?

takezo1977 Says:

Nov 27, 2008 - professional athletes? Im doing the five tibetan twice a day. But it shows how hard they can be in the beginning :)

lilbreeezy Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - Can you give a link to a video that shows the proper breath work?
