The face of Russian families is changing. Single mothers used to be frowned upon in the Soviet Union, but now one in three babies are born out of wedlock. Many Russian women no longer need the financial security of men.

Jan 20, 2008 - More feminist bullshit that is supposed to support single mothers as some damn form of liberation from men. Single motherhood isn't liberation from men it is idiocy that leaves children fatherless.

MiddleEastPolitics Says:

Jan 20, 2008 - In Russia, 6 out of 10 pregnancies are aborted. As I oppose abortion, I think this is better in any case myself.

Globox822 Says:

Jan 20, 2008 - I was just about to say "like here in Sweden" when they said it at 1:33 in video. This is trend from western Europe and USA, sadly it is reaching rest of the world. I think that this mostly hurts children and woman benefit most from this, because they stay like unchained dog to do what ever it wants. Purpose of marriage is not to be depended on husband but to settle down, create a family, find that happiness and piece. But woman are by nature selfish so this was inevitable.

Jan 20, 2008 - I wanted to add to the comments of djnobel and Globox822. The reason this trend is happening is because we have the wrong incentive structure in the west, and now, in Russia. Single mothers recieve money (elementi) from the fathers of the babies and they have no incentive to marry. While I agree that there are more reasons to marry than money, it is still important to awknoledge the monetary incentives structure of your economy, and how these incentives may be contributing to current problems.

May 2, 2008 - Oh really. So it has nothing to do with Russian men being debils these days?

katyawinslett Says:

May 2, 2008 - Single motherhood isn't liberation from men, but in some cases the mothers have no choice; and in some the men just leave. It's in 90 percent of the cases. The men shoudl look at themselves.
