I happened to start maintenance today after 5 years of a devastating heroin addiction that all but killed me. It's so true that the stigma around methadone comes from the majority that don't try to make it work. Like you I plan on giving it an honest attempt this time and work with it as a tool rather than a crutch, restore my life and get off once my life is in order. Thanks for sharing

It is so helpful to be able to share our experiences and to know that we are not alone. I also love to know that by my openness about my addiction, I am able to help someone, anyone out there. <3

Sep 2, 2008 - Hahaha. No thank you. I will pass on NA. I have been, and I met my best connects in NA. So..I will stay away from that place. As a matter of fact, my old dealers used to hang out at NA meetings.

There are many paths, countless paths in this universe and we are human beings, as diverse as they come. What works for you may not work for me. What works for me may not work for you. I have tried NA, and it didnt work. I am very happy that it worked for you, but it didnt for me. I am taking another route and it has completely changed my life and will continue

Sep 8, 2008 - Hi... Hey good luck with it. I was on methadone maintenance for years, and then finally came off of everything with subutex (Uk suboxone). I did it without the 12 steps - which did NOT work for me - and it was people like sidecrank who put me off of NA forever. People who treat it like a religion, and have no concept that people can get clean without the steps. I am a writer now, I wrote a book about being on methadone which comes out in Nov. Oct 2, 2008 - Yeah John Fruscianti was out there. I seen that video. I used heroin for 10 years on and off. For 9 of those years I was in and out of jail. I've been on M.M for 6 months in Trenton N.J. I finally talked my doctor into prescribing it for me. Now insurance will pay, as opposed to $75 a week. Methadone works for me! The 12 steps don't work for everyone. Meetings suck!! Congratulations on your progress. P.S. nice voice

Oct 18, 2008 - yes some do give the methadone clinics a bad name,but they do help.I have a life noe because of the clinic.I have been on 70mgs for 3 yrs now.Went to school and have a good job and have earned respct from my family.I no longer am a slve to oxicotins. These days Iam on 1/2 my dose and Iam doing great.Soon I know Ill be off.I went to meetings and did everything they told me to do and IT WORKS!

Oct 30, 2008 - hi good to hear its helping I myself been on mmt for about 4yrs now and right sometimes you need it the rest of your life and opiates are a hard thing to get off (for good anyways) but right everyone is different and i hate the bad things associated with methadone its too bad but hey fuck em lol. I thought i was gonna be on for a yr too but god was I wrong.If you have a good therapist there its a plus. How ya doing now? Good I hope. Im on 114 started at 45. Clean now 4yrs so its good.takecare.

Nov 18, 2008 - what the hell does someone do that does want to do the methadone treatment and is totally honest with their doctors and they dont want to give it!!!? I never took narcotics till after a car wreck in 2001. Lorcet is all they give me. They havent worked for 3 years. I illegally trade them and try to get them to switch me but they wont! I have a lot of pain from broken back, 13 broken ribs, broke hip, 2 strokes, blockage in my brain now and I just turned 38. I was never a drug addict,till now.
