Jul 12, 2008 - hahahahahahahahahahahahaha okay, that was a good one
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 13, 2008 - I mean, when the New York Dolls let Johnny Thunders sing, that was one thing, David Johansen could play tamborine and whatnot, but Rotten would just be left to, what, go sit in back and drink some beer?
aintpluggedin Says:
Jul 13, 2008 - Exactly. Your answer struck me with such hilarity cos its so bluntly simple and true and bounces the question out of the floating realm of possibilities. If ever there was a band more fused in their roles, I cant think of it. Johnny was so set in place that he even had a persona with a name, a character. Nah, cant see him stepping to the side to click the castanets, and any beer drinking he did, he did up front (haha)
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 14, 2008 - Exactly. that's kind of what I was going for. The Pistols never even thought about avoiding an issue, so we owe them the same in return. And, yes, there's no band who got stuck in their roles more than the Pistols. Look what Johnny did after that, went into another band and just sang. Jones and Cook went onto another band themselves, and Sid just sorta fizzled out in New York.
sidandmoi Says:
Jul 14, 2008 - dunno, rest? drink some water?
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 14, 2008 - Yeah, I mean, he could've, or they both sing it or something, but, it seemed to me, at least back then, as long as Jones, Cook, and Matlock/Sid were playing, Rotten was gonna be holding a mike.
sidandmoi Says:
Jul 14, 2008 - true. anyway i prefer john singing it over sid but i think ronald biggs was the best (singing belsen).
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 14, 2008 - Well, now, are you used to Sid singing it with his little ragtag group of musicians in New York, or with the Vicious White Kids? Cuz that matters. But, yes, you are right. However, there supposedly is a studio version of Belsen with Rotten singing out there somewhere. EMI just doesn't want us hearing it.
aintpluggedin Says:
Jul 15, 2008 - when I say fused in their roles, I dont mean that as a bad thing. quite the opposite actually. thats what gave them their spark, extreme definition, magic. cant imagine the drums without the guitar or either of them without the spokesman. and the shifting bass? that showed the mysterious void and their flexible fuse. steve tried his best at being a singer-afterwards-and johnny when at loose ends and alone in pil suddenly adapted by playing several instruments. sid? "a lost little boy" (johnny)
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 15, 2008 - Yes and no. There's alot of stories. Supposedly Sid's lyrics were about the train ride to Auschwitz, Keith Levene wrote the music after hearing the title phrase from Sid, and just a bunch of other crap. Personally, I do think he wrote it.
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 15, 2008 - Well, before they had Johnny, way back in the early days of the band (We're talking back in the days of Wally Nightengale on guitar and Jones on bass), Steve was the lead singer, and Johnny did a completely solo album a few years ago.
sidandmoi Says:
Jul 15, 2008 - am i the only one that thinks that steves got a better voice than john?
aintpluggedin Says:
Jul 16, 2008 - yep, das right....ever since I heard about Wally, I always wonder...another mysterious chess piece. Supposedly the journalist Nick Kent would play with them at times but as John has it, when he first saw him he said no thats gotta go. Have you seen the professionals live clips-new york 1981? interesting.
aintpluggedin Says:
Jul 16, 2008 - Steve has a good voice. My personal preferences most ppl think weird. I look for the art form, what brings it all together as a whole. There are things about Johnnys voice I love esp. on their demos and the album. It has a power and brought something to their sound no other voice could have. Thats how I see it, but Sid had a good voice too.
sidandmoi Says:
Jul 16, 2008 - johns a great preformer, on stage hes awesome, hes got it. but steves voice is better, i think.
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 16, 2008 - Yes. However, John was a better fit because his "singing" added to the whole anti-mainstream appeal and quality to the band. Just listen to The Professionals if you want proof of Steve's singing ability.
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 16, 2008 - Yeah, I have seen that, The Professionals are a very good band that I'm only pissed off that I didn't discover them sooner. And, yeah, I've heard the Nick Kent rumors, and that he was the second guitarist in the Spunk session. There's quite a few rumors about this band, and I think that's why people are still so interested in them, over 30 years after they broke up. Well, that and some fantastic music.
xapuceros Says:
Jul 31, 2008 - Again, another unplugged bass guitar concert, courtesy of Sid Vicious. I can't hear the bass at all. The group and/or the mixing engineer pressed the button "off" to improve the sound.
stuntsheriff Says:
Aug 11, 2008 - honestly you fucking idiots its not about the mix or the sound man or whose voice is better its the attitude, baby; and these four, jones cook rotten vicious had ti in spades and besides when did people start getting advanced degrees in sex pistols? fuck glen matlock, sid lives!
Area5107 Says:
Aug 16, 2008 - Johnny and Steve, said now they look back it was a mistake to get Sid in the band, Matlock was far superior, Sid was about image, thats all, aka a poser.
stuntsheriff Says:
Aug 16, 2008 - chiefs of relief, anyone? i think sid was lucky to die because they are flogging a dead horse all around the world.
aintpluggedin Says:
Aug 16, 2008 - advanced degrees in sex pistols LMAO! (coulda been me off the deep end) (but still, Johnnys voice is better, the punk voice to top all punk voice) YES! hehe
oldcreppy Says:
Aug 22, 2008 - Sid was unplugged? I can't hear the bassline!
miryallerdyce Says:
Aug 27, 2008 - sid vicious is punk
cubfan531 Says:
Jul 11, 2008 - Because, what's Johnny supposed to do when Sid's singing it?
