On Jan. 12 2008, about 1,000 local residents of Shanghai gathered at the People's Square, which locates in front of the city hall, to protest against the extension project of the maglev railroad, shouting slogans "Save the homeland!", "No more maglev!" and "Save the children!". Later, the group moved to the Nanjing road and grew up to two or three thousand.
