http://www.mikehuckabee.com:80/?FuseAction=Blogs.View&Blog_id=1206 The following is the body of an email from Roy Beck of NumbersUSA: ______________________________________ In creating this pledge, NumbersUSA believed it closed nearly all of the loopholes that our members have seen in the promises of some candidates, some Members of Congress and the President when they say they oppose amnesty. NumbersUSA's strategy in offering these 'no-amnesty pledges.' We offered a pledge to all candidates about six weeks ago and said that I would appear at a press conference with any candidate who signed it. Hunter, Thompson and Romney have all earned EXCELLENT ratings on amnesty through other methods. However, last weekend, Huckabee contacted us expressing interest in sending a clear signal that he understands what the public wants when it cries out for no amnesty. Huckabee's willingness to sign such a tightly worded and strong pledge really shows the power of grassroots pressure. Just a couple of months ago, Huckabee was still making some really awful comments about amnesty, sounding very much like McCain's current pro-amnesty plan. Yet, this week, he committed himself to arguably the most detailed and iron-clad no-amnesty pledge out there. We received strong criticism from many of you who feel that Huckabee's past stances on immigration make him untrustworthy to carry out his pledge with us -- and that we were wrong to accept his pledge. You have to make a judgment about trustworthiness on your own. We simply rate the quality of each candidate's most current campaign promises with an eye to how public and official those promises are. Some have contacted us in great anger, claiming that we have at least quasi-endorsed Huckabee. That simply is not true. We never endorse candidates. I made that abundantly clear at the first of the news conference. I saw no news reports that misrepresented us as endorsing. One set of criticisms, however, was of great concern to me. At first, the "Important Points" above were not included in the Huckabee website. Several of you said you loved the bullet points that I included Wednesday night in my report of my day in South Carolina but that unless Huckabee placed them on his website, there was no real accountability that he would ever stand by them. In response to your many emailed comments, I contacted Huckabee's campaign and said that the points of explanation had to be on the website as part of the pledge if his pledge was to be taken seriously. Huckabee almost immediately responded with the full pledge you see above. Our goal has been to persuade as many Presidential candidates as possible to move in our direction on the immigration issues. We have been pleased during the Primary season as Thompson, Paul, Romney and Huckabee have continued to improve on their overall immigration stances. This has terrified the New York Times which ran a big editorial Friday, denouncing the seemingly unending movement of several candidates toward our side. It also condemned NumbersUSA for working so hard against illegal immigration.

Jan 19, 2008 - To my knowledge Huckabee is the only candidate to have signed the pledge. I wonder if McCain would sign it.

Jan 19, 2008 - Huckabee will be president and McCain will be vice... just wait....

fastingjoe01 Says:

Jan 20, 2008 - I cannot believe an athiest would support Huckabee, are you willing to support someone who believes that the establishment of Israel and the war in the middle east are a MUST to fullfil bible prophecy?

BlueCollarPolitico Says:

Jan 20, 2008 - Why is your view of Huckabee so narrowly focussed on his religion? Every person has many abilities and talents that reach far beyond what simple texts may preach to them. It is that broader scope of personality by which I judge Huckabee. Maybe you should open up and try it, too.

BlueCollarPolitico Says:

Jan 20, 2008 - If McCain ends up on the ticket with Huckabee, I will NOT support it!

Jan 20, 2008 - And your mom will be on my cock..Oh wait, that's actually true.

Jan 20, 2008 - Look, I live in Arizona, I have been in agreement with and against John's views. He's really done some great things, he is like a good watchdog for the military overspending... but he's also been against full assault on the illegal issue. The one thing I like about McCain is he's trainable! I can't say that for most of them

fastingjoe01 Says:

Jan 21, 2008 - in my opinion someone who believes in unproven ancient mythical prophecies is not mentally fit to run the most powerful country in the world. E

BlueCollarPolitico Says:

Jan 26, 2008 - Just because you and I do not believe in that religion crap does not mean we should judge those believers harshly in the much greater arena of ideas. If you open your mind you will see the bigger picture. However, it seems, you are too narrowly focussed in your judgement of people, which implies that you are a Democrat.

fastingjoe01 Says:

Jan 26, 2008 - true, there are degrees of christians, but huckabee is too extreme for my liking, He is more likley to run the country on biblical principles than American principles. He has openly admited in the past that "I want to take back America for Chirst" not the people.

NoillegalAliens Says:

Jan 31, 2008 - uh hello, a pro NAU mexican national heads up his campaign, what the hell are you talking abut he is trainable. He is a mother loving traitor.

alisher1984 Says:

Feb 1, 2008 - I am an atheist and I support Israel on secular grounds. Israel is the only free society in the Middle East. What Middle Eastern country allows freedom of religion? What Middle Eastern country doesn't persecute gays and lesbians? What Middle Eastern country allows free speech? Yes, that's right. It's Israel!

fastingjoe01 Says:

Feb 1, 2008 - what country has injured more innocent civilians per capita than any other country? what country has turned millions of Palestians into Refugees? what country is unique in using human shields in militay operations, what country bulldozes homes while Palestianian civillians are still inside.. its Israel! PLEASE watch?v=dYJxeEVa_0M

alisher1984 Says:

Feb 1, 2008 - Once Israel was created, Palestinians had a chance to live in a free democratic society that respects fundamental rights and freedoms of all individuals. They chose to remain barbarians by attacking the Jewish communities on regular basis which lead to the War of 1948 and, subsequently, further military conflicts. Fuck Muslims!

fastingjoe01 Says:

Feb 1, 2008 - What really happened was that the Zionist movement, from the beginning, looked forward to a practically complete dispossession of the indigenous Arab population so that Israel could be a wholly Jewish state. Zionism was based on a faulty, colonialist world view that the rights of the indigenous inhabitants didn't matter. The Arabs' opposition to Zionism wasn't based on anti-Semitism but rather on a totally reasonable fear of the dispossession of their people.

fastingjoe01 Says:

Feb 1, 2008 - Theodore Herzl, the founder of Zionism, stated] 'We shall try to spirit the penniless [Arab] population across the border by procuring employment for it in transit countries, while denying it employment in our own country... Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly'

alisher1984 Says:

Feb 3, 2008 - I agree with you here. Secular leftists are obsessed with bashing religion to the point when they ignore the fact that are forging a religion of their own: SOCIALISM. Ironically, people, who oppose the intrusion of religion in our private lives, are the same people who advocate government control of our money through ever-increasing taxation, socialized healthcare, welfare, etc.

Mar 18, 2008 - Awesome response!
