As a statistician I may express belief as the representation of the world that you find most likely to be correct given the information you've got. Mind you, that may be a definition of maximally rational belief, rather than belief in general. Finite brains and wishful thinking can easily put sand in that machinery.

Feb 5, 2008 - Yea i think thats a better method of figureing out what to believe, b/c the brain does not go about making beliefs in that way, it tends to maximize coherence over verdicality.

Jan 21, 2008 - I hope Paulsego sponsors you soon. I really find your intellect and your ability to post your sources refreshing (for obvious reasons). It just makes every argument more credible - so often I just can't take a lot of internet opinions seriously because you can tell when they didn't research the topic and instead just thought "Hey, I wonder about this" while they were on the can. Keep going, I have learned a lot!
