Jan 17, 2008 - good rebuttal, and point taken on the optical disk. The only real threat to it is wi-max but the technology is at least 5 years away from being able to recreate hd or even dvd quality playback, besides the internet bandwidth is running out and unless there's a massive infrastructure building programme then Blu-ray investors can sleep easy.

Jan 17, 2008 - I disagree. The media of DVDs gets larger exponentially. I would expect newer products to have blue ray or HD dvd. Something may replace DVDs eventually but currently there is no viable option right now. When apple phased out the floppy everyone was using CD already.

Jan 17, 2008 - The mistake in Apple right now is they won't put in a Flash card reader. Both the Wii and PS3 already use them. The Flash drives will soon take over the Hard Drives. When the price on Flash drives go down it will be over for Hard Drives. But agree with you the Flash card or Memory cards. But like I said it will soon. It's just not there yet. But soon. Apple jumped the gun there.

Jan 17, 2008 - Well said. Not many people have the guts to go against emeeks points and I've got nothing against the guy but his attitude that Apple never ever does anything wrong, and that he doesn't like people who point out flaws and all that, kinda gets to me. But well done and well said. The sun does NOT shine out of Apple's arse and the more people that realise this, the better.

Jan 17, 2008 - Look I know that the Memory cards are going to replace CD/DVD now. CD/DVD are going to be here for a long LONG time. mrbit10 is right that the next MacBook Air is going to have the CD/DVD drive returned. But what I'm saying is that Mac needs to be putting in Memory card readers into their mac. There's even rumors of a 7G Memory card coming out soon. All Im saying when Memory cards have 30G and lower the price down then CD/DVD will be dead. But not right now. It's to soon.

Jan 17, 2008 - floppy drives were replaced by cd and mostly usb flash drives as they became affordable and had more space. Plus floppy drives became useless because files became huger. So the floppy drive killed itself. Now Apple is pushing this wifi world which is at the moment not fully practical. We still need usb ports and optical drives. Wifi is not everything and that reliable.
thisithis Says:
Jan 17, 2008 - Added Iomega helped kill the floppy drive too. When they fist came out most Iomega disk were seen as a replacement for floppy drive. Even Apple started putting Iomega drive in there Mac. But from what I remember Iomega got greedy and put a higher price tag on all Iomega drives. The Iomega drives died right after that. Way to go in shooting yourself in the foot Iomega.

Jan 17, 2008 - that is so true I forgot about the famous zip drives of which apple did have, my g4 has one.

Jan 17, 2008 - LOL, 1st song is POLISH :D probably remixed? :-)
mrbit10 Says:
Jan 17, 2008 - yes I believe the composer is polish.
Sier9iej Says:
Jan 17, 2008 - I guess optical drive is not IN MB Air cuz war of standards in not yet clearly finished... So instead, we have option to connect ANY optical drive via USB (only one port? use HUB then)
Sier9iej Says:
Jan 17, 2008 - It IS, iKnow this Really God :-)
mykeman83 Says:
Jan 18, 2008 - higher price killed the lomega drive. G4 cube higher price killed it(great product but too advanced at the time). Now Apple wants to kill this one too? I dont want this product to die out; i just want Apple to realize that wifi approach is too advanced. They have to make this macbook air more suitable and user-friendly(if i may use the term) to an average consumer.
RemarkabLee Says:
Jan 18, 2008 - Memory 'cards' do not have the bandwidth of todays CD/DVD drives.
RemarkabLee Says:
Jan 18, 2008 - There are too many competing standards for flash memory cards - would be better to just use a multi-card reader.
sunnz Says:
Jan 18, 2008 - The Flash disk drive or whatever USB connecting media thingy can take over CD/DVD/HD-DVD/BRay/Optical Driver any day... ... provided they are cheap enough to be used as installation disc... you know when you buy a router/mouse/whatever they always come with installation CD's, well if they can use flash disk instead, then it is cheap enough!!!

Feb 8, 2008 - I didnt word it as well as MRBIT10, but I had the chance today to play on the MacBook Air at the Apple Store and left my review at my channel. Come on in and have a look. thanks.

Mar 17, 2008 - "The smaller the technology gets, the more expensive it gets" Have you heard of the EEEPC?
mrbit10 Says:
Mar 18, 2008 - that of course depends on the form factor, the context is a new form factor. The air had a completely new chip, thus a new form factor. if one can make a small device using existing form factors, the price will not reflect any change.
mrbit10 Says:
Mar 18, 2008 - did you not hear when I said we obviously have very small mobile devices that are cheap and put it in context of form factor?
mobilephone2003 Says:
Mar 18, 2008 - I see, i thought you were talking about the laptop as a whole
mrbit10 Says:
Mar 18, 2008 - no problem, thanks for the comment
HemmaDC Says:
Apr 5, 2008 - I think the power is fine for the air. That is provided you only need to use emails for work, and no processor heavy stuff. My only problem is spare battery. If you are on the go, you would want to have the laptop to be on for longer than 4 hrs tops.

Jan 17, 2008 - I only have one app on my mac that was installed with a cd that I can think of, final cut. the rest were downloaded off internet.
