It was time to hit the famous and compulsory Movie World. We started the rainy day by watching the explosive, action-packed Police Academy live show, followed by a flurry of roller coasters. Lethal Weapon had our feet dangling in open space while going on 360 degrees loops. The Superman Escape roller coaster ride shot us vertically in 0 to 100 kilometers/hour in 2 seconds, and had five 360 degrees loops. Shrek 4D followed, where you had to wear 3D glasses, and the chairs we on moved and vibrated. There were blasts of wind and sprays of water to make it a 4 dimensional experience. Later we went to the boring Shrek Live stage performance and quickly ran out after 10 minutes as Erman got bored. The adrenaline junkie in him demanded more roller coaster rides, so we head off for the Scooby Doo spooky coaster, Road Runner roller coaster, Wild West Falls Adventure, Looney Tunes River Ride and the Batman Adventure. There was no time for lunch and we missed the parades and a few other live shows as there loads to do with too little time. You haven't been to Australia if you don't catch a glimpse of its unique animals, so at night it was time to explore the marsupials and creatures of the down under at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. It was a guided night tour where there are more chances to handle the animals yourself. I grabbed the opportunity to hand-feed the fresh water crocodiles, kangaroos and have my photo taken with the cute but smelly koalas. We had the chance to be close to the Tasmanian Devils, possums, sugar gliders, miniature kangaroo-like critters called bettongs and an owl. We watched an enthralling Aboriginal traditional performance by members of the Nyulejam Dance Troupe. When we got back to Surfers Paradise, it was already 10.30p.m. Erman was too tired after a whole day's outing, so I headed off to nearby Centro, the major shopping and dining attraction in Surfers. Thousands of people were dressed in their best, despite the first-ever cancellation of New Year Eve official events such as fireworks. Too windy and rainy. The Ozzies were pissed drunk, talking at the top of the voices and basically enjoying themselves. We had the New Year countdown by the beach where there was a digital clock. First time I celebrated New Year in a foreign land. Awesome!
