May 30, 2008 - Walikum Assalaam, These are great questions, to the first question about the punishment of someone who never recieved the message in that they practiced what their forefathers taught them, Allah has sent messengers to ALL nations so there will always be a knowledge of ONE god in their understanding that is first and foremost, and just as in the future muslims will only say the shahadah but not even pray yet Allah will forgive them, So i believe the same is true with these people.

May 30, 2008 - Also Allah is All forgiving, therefore on his mercy he can forgive ANYONE their short commings, there is a hadith of a woman who was a prostitute giving water to a dog dying of thirst and for that she will enter heaven, so there are many ways to heaven, all leading to the mercy of GOD. as for a muslim who does not practice, again Allah can forgive that person for that mustard seed's worth of faith. and what ever is not forgiven will be paid for.
