Oct 7, 2008 - Uigurs are one of the oldest Turks. Uigurs had an Empire for 1oo years, 744-840, from modern Central Asia all the way to Manchuria/Far East. The first Turkic book was writted by an Uigur, Yusuf Balasaguni, in 11th c. You, probably, haven't heard much of Uigurs because East Turkistan/Uigurstan, the centre of the Uigur civilisation, is occupied by china and is officially known to the world as XinJiang.
