I'm a visual artist also and I understand the argument, however it's a little asinine because all of these artists are simply duplicating the copywritten work of another artist. I could see if the artwork was completely original then there would be room for a justifyable quarrel but these characters already belong to someone else. I do tribute art of my faves too but I wouldn't be angry if someone put them an AMV cos it's really someone elses.

Feb 8, 2008 - Yes, someone else owns the copywrite to the characters, but that does not change the fact that the maker of the artwork is STILL the artist, and still has rights over their work. They are the only ones who have a say in what is done with their art. Saying they don't is like saying that just because I didn't sew this shirt I'm wearing myself means is perfectly okay for someone else to rip it off my body and run away with it.

JV didn't draw that RAPR pic at frame 33. I did. I put hours of my life into that work. Not JV. So the artwork itself belongs to ME. Not JV, and not Nickelodeon. I am the one who gets any say on what is done with it. Just because I drew fanart does not mean I deserve to get ripped off.
