Aug 5, 2007 - Why can't wee see the final touch down ?

adumitru Says:

Aug 6, 2007 - If you observe, you can see a building comes in the frame and causes us to switch to a second camera (the touchdown can actually be seen, only from further away).

Strykaas Says:

Aug 6, 2007 - OK, I see. Regarding the concept, I absolutely do not see the point of the foils (intermediate configuration). Why don't you land it (I mean , on the sea), then once speed is low, turn it directly into the submarine configuration ? Foils do not add up anything, IMHO...

SebastiaoTiarks Says:

Aug 8, 2007 - The hydrofoils system are used while navigating on water and taking off from it, not during landing.

Strykaas Says:

Aug 8, 2007 - Why can't it navigate on its belly ? Is fast navigation a requirement ?

adumitru Says:

Aug 8, 2007 - It can navigate on the belly, its working like that for now actually. But the use of hydrofoils is a matter of efficiency (power req. at takeoff...) and of ease of operations.

Strykaas Says:

Aug 8, 2007 - Ok. Regarding aerial to underwanter transition, how are you going to waterproof the turbine compartment ? How are you going to build a strong hull, yet very light for aerial flight mode, so that you can navigate at 300 meter depth, which is 30 atm pressure ? That seems utterly difficult, if not impossible.

Aug 8, 2007 - Hi, we are unwilling to discuss certain design topics on public forums. Public information is available on our website aeroart -dot- eu. If you have a professional interest in Aelius, we invite you to contact us directly via email.

Strykaas Says:

Aug 18, 2007 - OK thank you for answering. I have no professional interest in Aelius, I was just willing to discuss some technical issues related to this puzzling project. Anyway, I wish you good luck !

Feb 20, 2008 - hi Alex & Aeroart, Great job on the prototype model. The Flight test phase seems interesting and looking at the flight dynamics, the model seem stable and flies rather well. The turbine powered engine seems a bit too loud unless yr going to fly way up at very high altitude. How is the propulsion system integration with the underwater system coming along? Any trials done yet? Anyway, great work alex and team
